Thank you so much for taking the time to chat with us Fifi. Before we get to it, let’s play a little game of “Finish The Lyric”… this is from Jay-Z’s Public Service Announcement interlude. Finish the lyric but make it your own.

“Allow me to re-introduce myself. My name is…”

[FIFI COOPER]: Fifi Cooper San, The Bosslady.

So great to have you on Le’Afrinique Bosslady! You’ve been on building MoCooper Records. How has the transition from artist to label owner been and how have you been juggling both roles?

[FIFI COOPER]: It’s been great being able to make my own decisions and follow my vision. Running a label is not as easy as being an artist. Every day I get to learn something new and I’m just grateful that I have the best team supporting me.

You’ve blessed us with a new single titled Ngeke. Unpack the single for us.

[FIFI COOPER]: The song was inspired by people who don’t wanna see us win, we had to give them a piece of our mind. And I’m back to claim my throne.

Touch on who you worked with to create single (why them, what their contribution was, how their contribution made the project what it is)

[FIFI COOPER]: I featured Lwah Ndlunkulu because she’s a great singer and I love the fact that she’s comfortable making music in her language (Zulu) just like how I rap in Setswana. Those languages together sound amazing! We are young girls who are proudly South African. The song was produced by Huey Ozyl. I have known him for a long time as we are both from North West and he just understands me. Not forgetting Mac24 who is an amazing artist and producer on the come up, he worked on the mixing and mastering of the song and made sure everything sounded perfect.

You also work a lot with fresh talent as well- who do you believe is an artist to watch out for?

[FIFI COOPER]: Thapelo Tau. He is from North West. He is the winner of The Ultimate Talent Search Season 1 competition that was held last year in October in Klerksdorp Rio Casino where I was a judge alongside Khuli Chana, Bucy Radebe and Thabiso Tsotesi.

You are part of the cast for Mzansi’s first version of Love & Hip Hop. What pursuaded you to follow the reality show route and what do you hope people learn from watching the show?

[FIFI COOPER]: I believe in God’s timing. Love and Hip Hop came at a time when I was ready to reconnect with my fans again as I was about to drop my album Chapters. I believe it’s a big platform for me and not only that, I have always been a fan of the show. I’m happy that my fans will get to know more about me and not just the artist.

What has been the highlight of your career to date?

[FIFI COOPER]: Winning 3 Metro FM Music Awards in one night .. it was my first time ever being nominated and I won all 3 awards… it was crazy!!

If you could have done anything differently in your journey, what would it be?

[FIFI COOPER]: Learning more about the business side of our industry and got a lawyer before I signed my first-ever contract.

Tell us about the FifiNation fanbase. How has their support made an impact on your musical career throughout the years?

[FIFI COOPER]: My fans are like family to me. They are always there for me and have always supported me all these years. Their love and support motivate me to keep going. it’s beautiful to know that you are not alone in this industry and that is another reason why I appreciate FifiNation so much.

A fun question again… If Hip-Hop was a superhero, what powers do you think it would have and why?

[FIFI COOPER]: The Hulk because even though it’s seen as a typical genre the same way that Hulk is in human form, Hip Hop erupts when it feels undermined in the industry just to remind everyone that it still is the beast.

What are your plans for the year? More new music

[FIFI COOPER]: I am dropping my album CHAPTERS featuring some amazing artists.
