The highly anticipated six-part biopic, Nkalakatha: The Life of Mandoza, is set to captivate audiences with its compelling portrayal of the iconic South African Kwaito artist, Mandoza. As the biopic continues to receive acclaim for its authenticity and emotional depth, the candid interviews with the talented cast shed light on the meticulous efforts that went into bringing Mandoza’s life and legacy to the screen.

Wiseman Mncube, who impeccably embodied the essence of Mandoza, shares his experience of stepping into the shoes of the legendary musician. “Playing Mandoza was an honour and a challenge. I dedicated myself to understanding his journey, his struggles, and his triumphs. It required an intense emotional connection to deliver an authentic performance that pays homage to his spirit.”

Lorraine Moropa, who portrayed Mpho Tshabalala, opens up about developing on-screen chemistry with Wiseman Mncube. “Chemistry between actors is essential to bring a story to life. Through education, healthcare initiatives, and empowering youth, we strive to make a positive impact, just as Mandoza would have wanted.”

Tumelo Tshabalala, Mandoza’s son, who plays the role of his older brother Tokollo Tshabalala in the biopic, reflects on the emotional journey of depicting his own father’s life. “Bringing my father’s story to the screen was both surreal and humbling. It allowed me to connect with his experiences on a deeper level and share his journey with the world. I hope this film serves as a tribute to his enduring influence.”

General Sibisi, founding member of Chizkop, who was very involved in the creation of the biopic, sheds light on the formation of the iconic music group. “Chizkop was born out of a shared passion for music and a desire to represent our culture. We fused kwaito, hip-hop, and traditional elements, creating a sound that resonated with the people. The film accurately captures the spirit of that era.”
