After a decade-long anticipation, Mr Eazi, the acclaimed artist, launches his highly awaited debut solo album, “The Evil Genius,” today. Leading the charge is his latest single, “Advice,” produced by Ghana’s M.O.G. Beatz. The album, boasting 16 tracks, is now available for pre-order here ahead of its release on Oct. 27, 2023. In an exclusive feature within Vevo’s original content series Ctrl., Mr Eazi delivers a gripping rendition of “Advice,” a track infused with drill elements, emphasizing his vocal prowess and defiance. Witness the dynamic performance.
“African martyrs, like Joseph Kabila and Ken Saro-Wiwa, heavily influenced the dense lyrics of ‘Advice,’” shares Mr Eazi, underscoring the track’s intense energy and inspiration. Recorded across multiple locations spanning Benin, Ghana, Nigeria, Rwanda, and various global cities, “The Evil Genius” encapsulates Mr Eazi’s intimate exploration of themes like love, betrayal, solitude, and familial bonds, structured into three distinct acts.
Breaking new ground in merging music and visual art, Mr Eazi collaborated with artists across Africa, commissioning unique physical artworks representing each album track. For “Advice,” Nairobi-based artist Alphonce Odhiambo, known as Alpha ODH, created an acrylic masterpiece echoing the song’s spirit of defiance.
Aiming for an immersive experience, Mr Eazi handpicked 13 artists from eight African countries, fostering an organic and passionate creative process. “The artworks visually unlock the ideas, emotion, and energy within my music,” expresses Mr Eazi about this collaborative endeavor. This artistic fusion culminates in a multi-sensory exhibition premiering in Accra, Ghana, from Sept. 13-17, followed by a showcase at the 1-54 Contemporary African Art Fair in London from Oct. 12-15. Further exhibitions across various cities will be announced soon.
In tandem with the album release, Mr Eazi, accompanied by ChopLife SoundSystem, embarks on a series of live performances:
- Saturday, September 2 | Washington DC – Karma
- Sunday, September 3 | Houston – Rise Roof Top
- Sunday, September 24 | Atlanta – Revolt World @ Pangaea Studio
