Nigerian music legend, entrepreneur, and philanthropist D’Banj, alongside Angolan supermodel and fashion icon Maria Borges, has been announced as the hosts of the first-ever Trace Awards in Rwanda. Presented by Visit Rwanda and Martell, the Trace Awards are set to take place at the BK Arena in Kigali, Rwanda, on October 21, 2023. This spectacular event will feature a star-studded lineup of over 60 performers and nominees, including notable artists like Davido, Yemi Alade, Mr. Eazi, and more. The recently added additions to the lineup include Artmasta, Ko-c, Odumodublvck, Pheelz, and Roselyne Layo.
D’Banj, celebrated for his groundbreaking contributions to African music, has a career spanning over two decades. His signing to Kanye West’s G.O.O.D Music record label in 2011 marked a significant milestone for African artists. D’Banj’s philanthropic efforts through the Koko Foundation and the innovative Cream Platform continue to empower African youth and foster emerging talent in the music industry.
Maria Borges, a renowned Angolan supermodel, has graced prestigious runways worldwide, including the Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show. She is known for promoting diversity and natural beauty in the fashion world and made history by becoming the first African woman to wear natural short hair on the cover of Elle magazine in the USA. Olivier Laouchez, Co-founder & Chairman of Trace, praised D’Banj and Maria Borges as the perfect hosts for the Trace Awards, acknowledging their cultural impact and influence in Africa and beyond.
