We explore the message of struggle and hustling in this track, where DeLASoundz and their collaborators call upon a higher power to guide them through their hardships, a message that resonates with many South Africans.
We had the pleasure of speaking with the trailblazing force in the music industry, DeLASoundz, their single ‘Ngisize Baba’ and their unique sound that continues to put Free-State on the music map.
Can you tell us about your background and how you got started in the music industry?
[DELASOUNDZ]: DeLASoundz is a Duo that consists of two guys from FREE STATE who are LUCKY KESALE & SIPHO DONALD KONOZA, The name DeLASound is a combination of our names, (L for Lucky and A for Apex Soul, which is The LA Soundz)DeLASoundz.
Collaborating with artists like Pelo, Tshidi Vince, and Epic DJ must have been an exciting process. Can you share some insights into the collaboration and working together on this project?
[DELASOUNDZ]: The collaboration with the guys is something we’ve been meaning to do for the longest time since these are people we have known for a long time and they also are talented in their own unique ways, so this time we decided to do something together and uplift each other since we all wanna make it in the music industry. As for PELO, we have other songs that we did back then in 2014 but never got to be released so we wanted to do something proper with her as well. As for EPIC DJ and TSHIDI VINCE, we all producers and we help each other with each others projects, Thats why it was so easy for them to become part of this project.
“Ngisize Baba” is your latest Amapiano sensation. What inspired the creation of this track, and how has the reception from listeners been so far?
[DELASOUNDZ]: The Inspiration for this song comes from the background of each and every artist that’s trying to change their life through a hustle since music is also kind of a hustle coz its not easy becoming the superstar that you wish to be. people go through a lot out there and with this song, we asking GOD to open doors for everyone coz life on its own is not simple. All in all the song talks about everyone going through tough time, not necessarily only us ARTISTS/ MUSICIANS.
You mentioned that the song speaks about struggle and hustling. How do personal experiences influence your music and lyrics?
[DELASOUNDZ]: Back then around 2014 to 2016 we used to stay in Bloemfontein just two of us, we rented a room and we would hustle for gigs and sell beats to ARTISTS big or small, that taught us a big lesson not to downgrade other peoples hustles just because now we seeing a little light now somewhere in our career. For the lyric, we do or write anything that will relate to our audience but this time we decided to enter this festive with just a little bit of a prayer, coz wow GOD has done some amazing things for us this year.
What can you tell us about your creative process when working on new music, from the initial idea to the final production?
[DELASOUNDZ]: Well most of the time we send each other projects since Sipho Donald stays in Allanridge and I, Lucky Kesale, stay in Welkom (Free State) but we try by all means to be together in the studio. Sipho can start something at his house and send it to me (Lucky) to finish off, or I (LUCKY KESALE) start something and send it to him and we’ll decide who will fit for vocals or sometimes we sing for ourselves.
Amapiano is known for its distinctive beat, groove and sound. How do you approach infusing your unique style into this genre, and what sets your music apart?
[DELASOUNDZ]: We as DeASoundz have a massive background in AfroHouse music, we only started doing AMAPIANO in 2022. Most of the time we try to infuse our AfroHouse elements into Amapiano so that our sound is different to other Amapiano joints, but we try by all means not to go too deep into AfroHouse to accommodate our piano fans as well.
“Ngisize Baba” is said to push boundaries and resonate with listeners on a profound level. Could you elaborate on the messages and emotions you aimed to convey through the song?
[DELASOUNDZ]: As you can listen to the song you can hear a little bit of gospel in NGISIZE BABA, which means our song can resonate with everyone, whether you are an Amapiano lover or Gospel lover or a House music lover u can dance to the song, it doesn’t matter what religion or wat genre you believe in, the song can penetrate through your emotions and you’ll end up dancing.
Looking ahead, what are your future plans and aspirations for your music career and your role in the music industry?
[DELASOUNDZ]: We wish to work with a lot of artists but mostly you know who are the biggest Amapiano artists in SA, Maphorisa & Kabza De Small, to work with them on a joint would be such a great experience coz we see our similarities in a way of how they produce their music and the type of soulful piano they do, that’s the kind of Amapiano we do but with a twist there and there.
Is there something about DeLASoundz that your fans might not know, but you’d like to share with them?
[DELASOUNDZ]: Ah not really, but we’d like to announce that our GISIZE BABA MUSIC VIDEO is coming soon, and the release dates will be announced on all our fan pages, please stream and subscribe.
What advice would you give to someone who wants to follow in your footsteps and make their mark in the music industry?
[DELASOUNDZ]: Follow what your heart desires, and always give it your best, you’ll never know who you will meet in the industry thats gonna change your life. Always be prepared.
