The French Institute of South Africa (IFAS) is orchestrating a harmonious crescendo of cultural celebration with the announcement of the application process for the eagerly awaited 2024 edition of Fête de la Musique. Set against the vibrant backdrop of Johannesburg’s Victoria Yards on June 22nd, this year’s festival promises a symphony of sounds, inviting musicians, bands, poets, and DJs of all genres to join in the chorus of World Music Day.
For the past 13 years, Fête de la Musique has enraptured audiences with its kaleidoscope of musical genres, from the soulful rhythms of jazz to the pulsating beats of techno. Curated by the French Institute of South Africa (IFAS) in collaboration with Bassline, and generously supported by TotalEnergies Marketing South Africa, this festival has become a cornerstone of Johannesburg’s cultural calendar. In a testament to its commitment to diversity and inclusivity, Fête de la Musique 2024 expands its repertoire to include Slam Poetry, reflecting the dynamic evolution of South Africa’s spoken word scene. This addition not only enriches the festival’s lineup but also amplifies the voices of artists who use poetry as a medium for social commentary and self-expression.
With no auditions but a discerning panel of industry professionals, Fête de la Musique offers emerging artists a stage to shine. Selected performers will not only grace the festival’s main event but also partake in workshops tailored to their needs, fostering a culture of knowledge-sharing and networking within the music community.
Musicians eager to be part of this melodic celebration are encouraged to submit their applications by April 15th, 2024, or until 300 entries have been received. The application process involves providing a comprehensive pack of materials, including a bio, photos, technical rider, sound clips, videos, and press kit. Submissions should be sent via WeTransfer to fetedelamusiquejoburg@gmail.com.

Fête de la Musique 2024 is not merely a festival; it is a testament to the transformative power of music, uniting diverse voices and cultures under one rhythm. As the stage awaits, musicians have the opportunity to seize the spotlight and showcase their talents to a captivated audience. Join us on June 22nd for a day of free, family-friendly concerts, and immerse yourself in the symphony of sounds that define Fête de la Musique.
