Monkey Shoulder is shaking up Johannesburg’s art scene with the launch of its first-ever Brushstroke Battle, a campaign aimed at discovering the next big name in mural artistry. The whisky brand, known for its boldness and creativity, is calling on talented mural artists to step up and showcase their skills, adding their own flair to the city’s vibrant street art landscape.
The Brushstroke Battle offers more than just exposure; it presents a career-defining opportunity for the winning artist. Participants are encouraged to submit their portfolios for a chance to win not only cash prizes but also a year-long supply of Monkey Shoulder whisky. Most excitingly, the winning artist will secure the chance to collaborate with the brand over the next year, making this an extraordinary platform for both recognition and future creative partnerships.
Monkey Shoulder has put together a series of incentives to motivate Johannesburg’s artistic community. Three shortlisted artists will each receive a R5,000 cash prize, while the final winner will walk away with R20,000, 12 bottles of Monkey Shoulder whisky to last the year, and the opportunity to work alongside the brand on special projects. This collaboration promises to give the winner a unique space to expand their creative footprint.
The campaign will culminate in a grand unveiling of the winning artwork at the highly anticipated Kunye event, which will take place on 2 November 2024 at Huddle Park. Artists have from 20 August to 30 September 2024 to submit their portfolios, after which the top three contenders will be selected between 1 and 4 October. The final battle for the grand prize will take place from 7 to 11 October, with the winning artwork revealed shortly after.
This is an unmissable chance for mural artists to leave their mark on Johannesburg’s streets and join forces with one of the world’s most recognized whisky brands. Get ready to paint the town with creativity and make your artistic vision come to life!
