The Vale Tournament (TVT) 2024, organized by the Edenvale Lions Basketball Academy (ELBA), is set to bring together top basketball talent from South Africa and beyond. Scheduled for November 27 to December 1 at Johannesburg’s Ellis Park Indoor Arena, this year’s event offers an impressive R1,000,000 prize for the championship team, establishing it as a leading competition within South African basketball. Founded in 2013, the Edenvale Lions Basketball Academy is committed to developing basketball and fostering youth involvement in sports. Since introducing The Vale Tournament in 2019, ELBA has created a platform that not only celebrates basketball skill but also supports the broader development of the sport across the nation. This year’s tournament is supported by partners such as Brand SA, Aquelle, Big Link Consulting, Supa Quick Edenvale, SABC, and Vodacom, who aim to bolster ELBA’s mission to professionalize the sport and inspire a new generation of players.

The five-day event will feature group-stage matches, semi-finals, and a culminating championship game. Alongside basketball matches, the event will include musical performances from South African artists like Harrison Crump, Big Zulu, and DJ Maphorisa, blending sports with local music culture.

ELBA co-founders Byron Pinheiro and Edson Makavan emphasize that The Vale Tournament is about more than competition. The academy’s approach integrates mentorship, community outreach, and environmental awareness, recognizing the role that sports can play in community building. ELBA also regularly engages in grassroots activities, charity drives, and educational programs that aim to connect, support, and empower youth. In addition to the on-court action, attendees will have opportunities to engage with ELBA’s broader community initiatives, as the organization seeks to promote the value of sports in shaping social and personal development.
