Leading African dance event organizer Kunye is partnering with Apple-owned Platoon for a year-end celebration, solidifying their mutual dedication to fostering and expanding genuine Afro-House and Afro-Tech music from Africa to a global audience. This event has become a standout attraction in Cape Town’s internationally acclaimed summer season.

The final Kunye event of 2024, at Cabo Beach Club on December 29, promises to be one to remember. On the line-up are a mix of Platoon artists alongside an eclectic mix of talent – fans can expect dynamic sets from Shimza (Kunye Founder), Mpho.WAV, Kenza, and Sun-El Musician. Artists joining them in the two-stage set up include the UK’s Kitty Amor, Kid Fonque, Darque, Shamiso, Sir LSG, Mila Rose, and Abby Nurock. Shimza’s Kunye event has become a South African summer staple, uniting diverse audiences for a pioneering Afro-house experience, with each event spectacularly different from the last.
 
Platoon has been a music partner of Kunye’s label imprint since its inception. Artists such as Thakzin, Blanka Mazimela and Darque have released tracks under Kunye, as well as global remixes that have come from Louie Vega, Mele, Rodriguez Jr. and Nandu — a carefully curated expression rooted in Shimza’s ethos. Platoon continues to offer a variety of artist services to Kunye and its community, supporting them in their artist journeys.
 
Some of 2024’s biggest releases include Shimza’s recent “Dreaming EP,” and “The Future is Afro,” a compilation that starred Mpho.WAV, Teqnik, Atmos Blaq, Argento Dust, and more. Kunye has also been sharing iconic DJ mixes (the latest of which are live in Atmos) on Apple Music on their official Kunye curator page, as well as being featured as label of the month on Beatport in November.
 
On the 29th of December, Shimza is scheduled to play a record three-hour set, following a two-hour set at the recent Johannesburg show in November, which featured a surprise appearance by Black Coffee, setting the precedent that anything exceptional can happen at these unforgettable events.
