The RMB Latitudes Art Fair is back for its third edition, taking place from Friday, May 23, to Sunday, May 25, 2025, at the enchanting Shepstone Gardens. A standout event on Johannesburg’s cultural calendar, the Fair offers an immersive experience of contemporary African art beyond the walls of a traditional venue. Visitors can explore dynamic indoor and outdoor spaces, engage in thought-provoking conversations, and appreciate sculpture beneath Johannesburg’s crisp autumn skies.

With 50 participating galleries and over 300 artists, RMB Latitudes represents the full spectrum of the art ecosystem. This year’s lineup features major local names like Southern Guild, Stevenson, and Everard Read, alongside emerging and alternative spaces such as FEDE Arthouse and AMG Projects from Nigeria. The Fair also welcomes Strauss & Co, ensuring a broad representation of contemporary and traditional African art.

“This year’s theme, ‘Co-Production,’ speaks to the Fair’s ethos of collaboration,” says Lucy MacGarry, co-founder and director. “By bringing together galleries, artists, and institutions, we create a platform that reflects the power of working together—a sentiment deeply rooted in African culture.”

Special Projects Spotlight

RMB Latitudes 2025 shines a light on Botswana’s art scene, highlighting the balance between contemporary and traditional practices. Artist Bonolo Kavula curates INDEX, a showcase of independent artists exploring abstraction, while Disturbed Currents: Art for a Warming World presents an outdoor exhibition tackling climate change through artistic expression. Meanwhile, ESSAY pairs stoneware sculptures by Amalie von Maltitz with charcoal drawings by Sydney Kumalo, offering an intergenerational dialogue in South African art.

Expanding Impact Beyond the Fair

Beyond the event, RMB Latitudes continues to grow its influence through initiatives like the RMB Latitudes CuratorLab, a mentorship program for emerging curators, and the RMB Latitudes Collectors’ Circle, a community for art enthusiasts. “Creativity fuels optimism, and optimism fuels creativity,” says RMB Chief Marketing Officer Alison Badenhorst. “Our partnership with Latitudes is about unlocking and celebrating talent across the continent.”
