Your album From The Heart Of Piano blends the classic Amapiano sound with fresh innovations. What inspired this approach, and how do you balance nostalgia with new influences?
MFR SOULS: The people are hungry for the old sound so we decided to go back a bit, but also not moving away from the current sound we try and merge the old methods with the new methods.
You’ve worked with big names like Kabza De Small, DJ Maphorisa, and rising stars like Chley and Bassie. How do you choose collaborators, and what was the creative process like for this album?
MFR SOULS: We don’t really get to choose, sometimes it’s always a good thing to start a song with the singer/writer in studio because we get to match our energies.
Amapiano continues to grow globally. As pioneers of the genre, how do you feel about its evolution, and where do you see it heading next?
MFR SOULS: The evolution of Amapiano has to be one of the best things in our lives simply because of the story we have behind Amapiano, also from how we’ve struggled a lot to bring this sound up. Amapiano is here to stay and will soon have its own shows outside the world.
“Azishe” made waves as a high-energy anthem. What do you believe makes a great Amapiano hit, and what was the vision behind this track?
MFR SOULS: What makes an Amapiano a hit is the people. The vision behind the song was people having a nice time that’s why it’s called “Azishe”.
Now that the first part of the album is out, what can fans expect from the next phase of From The Heart Of Piano? Any surprises in store?
MFR SOULS: The next part is going to be something amazing, a mixture of the old sound mixed with the new school with soulful feel… We don’t want to ruin the surprise but expect FIRE!
