Black Crown, the SAB brand known for its African-crafted gin and tonic, has launched a groundbreaking new Afrobeats track called “Be Sure“. What makes this song truly unique is that its foundational music was created using a Plantwave sound device, translating the sounds of African botanicals like juniper, rosemary, and citrus into melodies.
The music video for “Be Sure” by Ama Gaisie focuses on themes of self-assurance, independence, taking control, and choosing peace. “We produced an Afrobeats track using Plantwave sound device technology with the bed music composed from the plants of African botanicals that is associated with our gin ’n tonics. From juniper, rosemary, and citrus, to name a few, this experiment produced the first ever Afrobeatanicals track,” says Candice van den Bosch, Brand Director at Black Crown.
“Be Sure” is a musical masterpiece inspired by the demanding lives of South Africans and the critical need for rest and moments of pause. This insight is further supported by a study from the Stellenbosch Business School, which highlighted the severe ramifications of extreme burnout within the South African context.
South Africa faces significant stress levels, ranking 69 out of 71 distressed nations globally. Startling statistics reveal that 1 in 3 South Africans experiences excessive, daily work stress, and a staggering 2 out of 3 have encountered burnout.
Contrary to popular belief, Afrobeats is recognized as one of the most calming music genres, making it an ideal choice for this innovative project aimed at alleviating stress and promoting relaxation. With a moderate BPM tempo ranging between 95-110, studies published in the Journal of Music Therapy have shown that moderate tempo music can lower perceived stress by up to 46 percent, compared to silence or high-BPM tracks.
“Through Afrobeatanicals, we advocate for our audience to ‘Put [their] Crown on Ice’, in order to press pause on the daily grind and stresses associated with being always-on and stream Be Sure now on streaming platforms,” Van den Bosch concludes.
