Award-winning Nigerian musician and global music star Patoranking opens a bold new chapter with “No Jonze”, a street-rooted, festival-ready anthem that signals the dawn of his next era. The track serves as the lead single from his forthcoming fifth studio album, marking a return to his origins while redefining his global sound.
Built on the raw bounce of late ’90s and early 2000s Galala music—a dance-driven genre born in Lagos’ Ajegunle community—“No Jonze”fuses nostalgic street rhythm with modern Afro-dancehall flair. The result is pure forward motion: a celebration of hustle, focus, and resilience. The title itself flips Lagos street slang into a life mantra, urging listeners not to fumble the moment.
At its core, “No Jonze”” is a tribute to Galala music, the “stepchild of dancehall” that shaped Patoranking’s early years. Rooted in resistance, survival, and freedom, Galala’s raw percussive edge pulses throughout the record. But Patoranking extends the conversation beyond Lagos—connecting its street rhythm to global offshoots like the Dominican Republic’s Dembow, Uganda’s Kidandali, and Kenya’s Gengetone. His message is clear: Afrobeats isn’t dying—it’s evolving. There are countless stories, styles, and subcultures across the continent yet to be heard.
The accompanying music video brings this manifesto home to Ajegunle, affectionately known as “the Kingston of Nigeria.” Directed by acclaimed filmmaker Director K (known for work with Rema, Wizkid, and Davido), the visuals pay homage to Galala’s pioneers—Daddy Showkey, Daddy Fresh, Oritse Femi, Baba Fryo, African China, and Danfo Drivers—through vibrant street murals and cameo appearances from Galala legends Marvelous Benjy and Allen B.
With its cinematic energy, “No Jonze” captures the heartbeat of Lagos: improvised, communal, and fearless. It’s more than a song—it’s a love letter to the streets that raised Patoranking and a statement of intent for the next generation of African sound.
“No Jonze” is available across all streaming platforms.
