To fans around the world, the legendary Soul Brothers extend heartfelt gratitude for over five decades of unwavering love and support. Formed half a century ago, the group credits their loyal following for carrying them through every chapter of their extraordinary journey.

Their upcoming 50th Anniversary Album stands as both a celebration of this legacy and a heartfelt commemoration of the founding members, Zenzele Mchunu, Tuza Mthethwa, David Masondo, and America Zulu, whose vision and passion helped shape the golden sound of mbaqanga. The group also pays tribute to the many incredible musicians who contributed along the way, including Japan Sidoyi, Sipho Bhengu, Mpompi Sosibo, Lawrence Mothoa, Vusi Mabuza, Mbongeleni Dladla, Javas Magubane, Lemmy Mabaso, Thomas Phale, Maxwell Mngadi, Sicelo Ndlela, Sifiso Nyoka, and July Mhlabane.
“After the release of our 2023 album Hamba Naye, I began thinking about the next chapter,” says Moses. “In early 2024, the vision for our 50th Anniversary Album started to take shape. I dove into our archives, rediscovering songs that were never released. At the time, they didn’t meet our standards, but I knew they had potential.”
With the help of new technology and AI, Moses embarked on what he calls “the profound work of resurrection.” By carefully revisiting and refining the original recordings — adjusting keys, tempos, and arrangements — he was able to polish the material without losing its essence.
“It felt like opening a channel to the past,” Moses adds. “The goal was to perfect the vision the brothers originally held and make sure the soul of our sound shines for today’s audience.”
One of the most special moments on the album is the return of the late David Masondo’s voice. Though he passed away in 2015, his unmistakable presence and spirit echo through the music, making the record both a tribute and a revival. Adding to the magic, the group collaborated with international artist Adam Glazzer, who plays the mouth organ on one of the songs. Glazzer visited during the recording sessions, and the chemistry inspired a spontaneous yet memorable feature.
To honour this milestone, the Soul Brothers are set to take their music back to the stage. The Soul Brothers 50th Anniversary Tour will begin in Mpumalanga and KwaZulu-Natal, with shows at Piet Retief Town Hall on 31 October 2025 and Empangeni Town Hall on 1 November 2025. More dates across the country will be announced soon as the group continues confirming bookings.
As they prepare to celebrate half a century of harmony, rhythm, and resilience, the Soul Brothers hope listeners will find the same joy in the album that they did in creating it.
Here’s to 50 years of the Soul Brothers, the music still lives on!
