VAQUERA REIMAGINES THE CONVERSE CHUCK WITH SLOUCH WEDGE SILHOUETTES

Paris-based fashion label Vaquera and Converse have collaborated to release the XXXHi Slouch Wedge and XHi Slouch Wedge, offering a bold reinterpretation of the classic Chuck silhouette. These new designs merge Converse’s recognizable elements with Vaquera’s experimental, narrative-driven approach to fashion.

Founded in 2013 by Patric DiCaprio and Bryn Taubensee, Vaquera has gained attention for its irreverent style, which celebrates contradiction, individuality, and self-expression. The brand’s avant-garde sensibility has been showcased through viral creations such as pillow dresses and its regular presence at Paris Fashion Week.

Revealed during Vaquera’s Fall/Winter 2025 presentation, the XXXHi Slouch Wedge rises above the knee while the XHi Slouch Wedge falls just below. Both feature textile-heavy constructions and hidden wedge soles designed to challenge conventional proportions and movement. Crafted in synthetic-waxed canvas that softens with wear, the sneakers retain signature Converse details such as the patch, pinstripes, and canvas while infusing Vaquera’s distinctive experimental aesthetic.

“We love to take something well-known like the Chuck and make it feel new,” says Bryn Taubensee, co-founder of Vaquera. “We kept a lot of the iconic elements of the Chuck but removed the laces and supersized the upper. The effect is something familiar while at the same time unknown and exciting.” Photographed by Brianna Capozzi and styled by Emma Wyman, the campaign features musician Cortisa Star, reflecting the expressive and boundary-pushing energy that defines both brands.

In South Africa, the collaboration coincides with a growing local interest in streetwear experimentation and bold self-expression. “Converse has always stood for creativity without limits. Collaborations like this one with Vaquera speak to our local audience’s appetite for originality—it’s about celebrating those who dare to do things differently and redefine what style means today,” says Tebogo Mothlamme, Marketing Manager for Converse South Africa.

The Converse × Vaquera footwear will be available from 11 November at converse.com and select South African retailers, with prices starting at R3 199.95. This release is part of a larger partnership between Vaquera and Nike Inc., which also includes a forthcoming reinterpretation of the Nike Air Max DN8.
