This year Dulux South Africa revealed Wild Wonder™ as the Dulux Colour of the Year for 2023. Determined by an international team of experts after extensive research into global social, design and consumer trends, the mood of the moment is translated into inspiring colours and finishes that are relevant and timely.

“Every year, we host a Trend Forecast and ask a panel of international design experts to share their insights about what will be influencing the way we live over the next few years. By understanding where the world is heading, we can respond with a colour that matches the mood of the moment,” says Palesa Ramaisa, Dulux Colour Expert.

The trends show we’re recognising nature as the source of everything in our lives and re-evaluating our relationship with the natural world.

With the natural world at the top of the global agenda, Dulux global design experts tabled different ways that nature supports and inspires us. Conversations led to the theme: Seeds of Wonder – a phrase that encapsulates the transformative power of nature – and to the shade itself.

“This birthed the concept of Wild Wonder^TM is a glowing natural tone that offers us a connection with nature and that brings a sense of natural magic into our homes. Around it, we’ve created four easy-to-use colour palettes: Lush, Buzz, Raw and Flow. Each tells the story of a different way that nature inspires us,” adds Ramaisa.

The Dulux Colour of the Year and its palettes support people in making confident colour choices when it’s time to touch up, make a change or express themselves. They’ve been designed to make it easy to select colours and combinations for a timeless look that’s also bang on trend. In fact, the colours have such staying power that the previous year’s Colour of the Year always makes a guest appearance in the next year’s colour palettes.

Taking a closer look at the four unique palettes to help evoke the untamed power of nature within your home Dulux presents:

• Lush Colours – These “forest hues” are inspired by plant-filled habitats: gardens, forests and woodlands. It’s a soothing palette that gives a comforting, familiar and supportive feel
• Raw Colours – These “harvest shades” are inspired by nature’s raw materials. Reflecting the richness of natural resources and designs, the palette creates a sense of creativity and potential
• Buzz Colours – These “meadow brights” are inspired by the bustling biodiversity of a wildflower field or grassland. The upbeat palette adds joy and harmony, celebrating what it means to work together
• Flow Colours – These “seashore tones” are inspired by the regular rhythms of nature and the cyclical tides of life. It’s a subtle, timeless palette that brings a feeling of balance and fluidity.
