The Absa L’Atelier 2024 art competition has opened its doors to emerging artists from 12 African countries, providing them with a platform to showcase their talent and creativity. Since its inception in 1986, the competition has been dedicated to supporting young artists, regardless of their background or formal training. This year’s theme, “Your story matters,” underscores Absa’s commitment to celebrating individual narratives and their significance within the broader cultural landscape.

Artists aged 21 to 40 are invited to submit their portfolios online until May 31, 2024, for a chance to become Absa L’Atelier Ambassadors. These ambassadors will receive various benefits, including mentorship, international residency opportunities, and the chance to exhibit their work. Moreover, a South African artist demonstrating exceptional vision and development will be awarded the prestigious Absa L’Atelier Gerard Sekoto Award, which includes a residency in Paris and a solo exhibition.

To amplify their voices and connect with a wider audience, artists are encouraged to share their journey and artworks on social media platforms, using the hashtag #YourStoryMatters and tagging @absa_group. Through initiatives like the Absa L’Atelier 2024 art competition, Absa continues to empower African artists, fostering a vibrant and diverse artistic community across the continent.
