This year, RMB Latitudes Art Fair’s special project, ESSAY, will shine a spotlight on the ethereal art and lives of Wendy Vincent and Geoffrey Armstrong, an artist couple. Curated by Vincent Truter and Lucy MacGarry, this unique presentation showcases selected pieces spanning 25 years of creation in the couple’s Magaliesburg Rock Garden, South Africa.

The exhibition features eight prints and four paintings by Vincent, alongside four wood sculptures by Armstrong. Their works engage in a dialogue with each other, the rock garden landscape, and their profound exploration of natural phenomena. The exhibit serves as a gateway into a dynamic, chaotic world rather than a place of refuge—a meeting that challenges and alters perceptions of reality and possibility.

“Armstrong and Vincent are true stewards of the earth,” remarks Lucy MacGarry, director and co-founder of Latitudes. “Their works pulsate with a deep connection to the natural world.” Armstrong’s masterful wood sculptures and compositions with rocks, stones, wood, and concrete unveil hidden forms and flows—a symbiotic dance of discovery and revelation in an interconnected universe, where form emerges from and dissolves back into its surroundings.

Vincent’s works depict the hidden life of nature through the interplay of form and absence, light and shadow. They beckon viewers to suspend their need for understanding and surrender to an alchemical state between void and form. “It’s a sensation about nature,” Vincent explains. “Plants are simply deeply present.”

The RMB Latitudes Art Fair will take place from May 24 to 26 at Shepstone Gardens. For more information, the full exhibitor list, and ticket purchases, visit latitudesartfair.com.
