Since its inception in 2018, Stylin Dredz Creative Conquerors has been a celebration of individuality, empowering those who defy societal norms to pursue their passions in the creative arts. This groundbreaking campaign has continuously championed emerging talent, aligning with the ethos of the Stylin Dredz brand to amplify the voices and work of these innovators.
Originally an homage to hand-picked trailblazers, the initiative has showcased the brilliance of notable figures such as Big Zulu, Karabo Poppy, David Tshabalala, and Focalistic. The Creative Conquerors are defined by their rebellious spirit, unique expression, and refusal to conform.
Amidst the persistent challenge of youth unemployment in South Africa, exacerbated by the COVID-19 pandemic, Stylin Dredz expanded the movement to support grassroots creatives. By collaborating with industry veterans and emerging talents, the campaign underscores the brand’s commitment to uplifting the community.
Stylin Dredz Mobile Studio
In 2022, the iconic Back To The City hip hop event saw the launch of the Stylin Dredz Mobile Studio. This innovative platform offered budding poets, MCs, and vocalists a chance to showcase their talents in a professional recording environment. Participants were invited to perform over one of four beats produced by the renowned Sandile aka Big Dreamz, with the prize being a professionally recorded single.
Among hundreds of entries, Theo Kganyago, known as Don Papa, emerged victorious with his track “Bafethu Bana.” Recorded at Don Laka’s Talk Republic studio, the song narrates Don Papa’s journey to break into the music industry.
Reflecting on his experience, Don Papa shared, “This campaign has significantly impacted my music career. It not only provided a platform to showcase my talent but also connected me with industry professionals and a wider audience. The exposure and support have been instrumental in advancing my career, refining my craft, and building confidence to pursue my dreams. This opportunity has truly been a turning point, opening doors that once seemed inaccessible.”
Brand Manager Tumiso Mathebula added, “Stylin Dredz aims to make a difference, especially in the arts. By giving artists like Don Papa a platform, we hope to inspire them to pursue their passions further. Our goal is to provide dreamers with the opportunities they need to kickstart their careers.”
Stylin Dredz Creative Conquerors continues to pave the way for young talent, proving that with the right support, creativity knows no bounds.
