In a move set to invigorate the South African entertainment scene, Mpumi Mlambo, known to many as Msakazi, has been named the co-host of SABC 1’s new reality show, “uShuni Womhlaba.” The program aims to showcase the rich tapestry of South African music, spanning genres such as Maskandi, Mbaqanga, Isicathamiya, Afro-pop, and traditional music.
Mpumi Mlambo brings with her a wealth of experience, having garnered acclaim as an award-winning radio host, DJ, and TV presenter. Her career, which began at VOW FM and continued through stints at PowerFM and MetroFM, has been characterized by a deep commitment to discovering and nurturing young, undiscovered talent.
“For years, I’ve been on the radio searching for young talent creating incredible music. While I’ve explored almost every genre, Maskandi, Mbaqanga, and Isicathamiya remained untouched for me. Now, with immense joy, I announce that I’ll continue this mission on SABC 1 on a show called ‘uShuni Womhlaba’. This opportunity fills me with excitement and deep gratitude. Born in Orange Farm, Mpumi’s love for music was nurtured by her older brother and further fueled by her exposure to iconic mixes from renowned DJs like Black Coffee, Zakes Bantwini, DJ Kent, Culoe De Song, and Fistaz Mixwell. Her journey in the industry began while pursuing her degree in Psychology, leading to a successful career marked by numerous accolades, including a Metro FM Music Awards hosting gig alongside Somizi in 2023 and interviewing international stars like Ari Lennox and Angelique Kidjo.
