Following the harrowing tornado that recently devastated parts of KwaZulu-Natal, the Nomcebo Zikode Foundation made a heartfelt visit to uThongathi (Tongaat) to extend much-needed support to the victims. The Foundation, dedicated to aiding disadvantaged women, children, the elderly, and those in the creative arts sector since its inception in 2021, distributed winter blankets and food parcels to those affected by the disaster.
The visit was marked by the Foundation’s commitment to community upliftment through inspiration, transparency, accountability, and empathy. Guided by the spirit of Ubuntu, Nomcebo Zikode, the founder of the charitable organization, led the distribution efforts, bringing warmth and sustenance to the tornado-stricken community. “This disaster was very tragic, so I felt it was important for us to come here promptly and lend a helping hand,” Nomcebo expressed, underscoring the urgency of the situation.
The team from the Foundation spent the day handing out blankets and non-perishable food packs, providing immediate relief to the victims. The initiative highlighted the importance of solidarity among South Africans in times of crisis. “We encourage all individuals and organizations to use this moment to illustrate the love we have for one another. These people need us to be able to refurbish their lives,” a Foundation member emphasized.
The dire living conditions of the people in Tongaat profoundly moved Nomcebo. She spoke about the heart-wrenching reality of seeing the already underprivileged lose their homes to the tornado. “It was very hard to not feel sorry for these people because they already don’t have it easy,” she explained. While her presence offered some solace, the stark reality of the victims’ situation underscored the urgent need for sustainable solutions.
The Nomcebo Zikode Foundation pledges to continue engaging with the affected communities and remains committed to participating in initiatives that foster positive outcomes for the disadvantaged. The Foundation is also eager to collaborate with organizations that share its mission, vision, and values, aiming to drive impactful change together.
As the community of Tongaat begins to rebuild, the Nomcebo Zikode Foundation’s efforts stand as a testament to the power of compassion and collective action in the face of adversity.
