This week marks a monumental occasion in the music world as we celebrate Supa Mega’s iconic sophomore album, LEVELS. In honour of this milestone, an all-star cast is set to appear in a tribute film that will captivate fans and commemorate the legacy of AKA. The tribute, titled #AKALevelsX, features appearances from AKA’s childhood friend, Simphiwe ‘SimDope’ Gumede, Nomuzi ‘Moozlie’ Mabena, music producer Tumelo “Tweezy” Mathebula, Don Design, Sarkodie, and many other key figures who share their stories of how AKA defined an era. The tribute film will premiere on Channel O and the official AKAWorldwide YouTube channel on Sunday, 30 June at 17H00.
Sean Watson, Managing Director of Sony Music Entertainment Africa, expressed his thoughts on the tribute, saying, “… #AKALevelsX is a short film that captures the essence of the influence and the level of impact that AKA has made not only through his music and his dynamic live performances but also depicts the impact Supa Mega has made in the lives of everyone who worked with him. May his legacy continue to shine a light and set an example for the next generation.”
Tony Forbes, AKA’s father, added, “It is my wish that my son is remembered through his music and that his legacy live on forever. This is an important milestone, and I encourage everyone to celebrate this moment in memory of Kiernan ‘AKA’ Forbes.”
Benza, Chief Opportunity Creator at Vth Season, echoed this sentiment, stating, “As we kick off ‘AKALevelsX week,’ we are requesting radio DJs, fans, and peers around the world to hold an hour in tribute of AKA and LEVELS in the build-up to and on the day of the anniversary, Sunday 30 June 2024.”
