adidas has unveiled a groundbreaking six-part docuseries, “Road to Paris,” offering an intimate glimpse into the lives of six exceptional athletes as they gear up for the 2024 Paris Olympic Games. This compelling series celebrates the athletes’ dedication, resilience, and personal sacrifices on their path to glory.
Among the featured athletes is Boipelo Awuah, a trailblazing 19-year-old skateboarder whose journey is nothing short of inspiring. Born and raised in Kimberley, South Africa, Awuah has earned the nickname ‘The Diamond of Kimberley’ for her dazzling performances and exceptional talent in skateboarding. Her story in the docuseries is a testament to youthful energy, determination, and the breaking of barriers in a sport still finding its mainstream footing.
A Journey of Perseverance and Passion
Boipelo Awuah’s path to the Olympics has been filled with highs and lows. Initially set to make her Olympic debut at the Tokyo 2020 Summer Olympics, her dreams were dashed by a pelvic fracture during practice. Yet, this setback did not deter her spirit. Instead, it ignited a renewed determination to come back stronger.
In the run-up to the 2024 Paris Olympics, Awuah has pushed herself beyond limits, perfecting her techniques and expanding her repertoire of tricks. Her signature move, the noseslide, is a highlight of her meticulously planned 45-second routine—a trick that took over a year of relentless practice to perfect.
Advocating for Diversity and Inclusion
Beyond her prowess on the skateboard, Awuah is a vocal advocate for diversity and inclusion in the sport. She uses her platform to inspire the next generation of athletes from underrepresented backgrounds, aiming to make competitive skateboarding more accessible and inclusive.
“Alongside my training, I’ve become a vocal advocate for diversity and inclusion in skateboarding,” says Awuah. “I use my platform to inspire the next generation of athletes from underrepresented backgrounds. My goal is to make competitive skateboarding accessible and easy for females to compete in. As the first Black female in Africa to compete at this level, I’m beyond honoured to represent Black females – and to pave the way for future generations to follow in my footsteps.”
The Docuseries: A Tribute to Athletic Excellence
“Road to Paris” is more than just a docuseries; it’s a tribute to the relentless pursuit of excellence. Each episode delves deep into the athletes’ lives, highlighting their unique stories of perseverance, hard work, and triumph. Through this series, viewers are offered a front-row seat to the intense preparation and personal sacrifices these athletes endure in their quest for Olympic glory.
