Kenyan Afro-Indie singer Njerae has officially signed with Universal Music Group East Africa (UMG EA), marking a new chapter in her career. This partnership promises to elevate her music to new heights, expanding her reach beyond Kenya. Expressing her excitement, Njerae said, “The giant music company will provide resources and expertise that will help me create much better music and grow my fan base.” UMG EA General Manager, Chinasa Udeala, praised Njerae, stating, “She is the voice of the new emerging music culture in East Africa… transcends not just EA, but internationally… speaks to core life experiences regardless of people’s age, generation, class, or whatever.”

Njerae’s journey began at Sauti Academy and blossomed with performances at major festivals like Blankets & Wine. Her 2022 debut album, Unintentional, and her recent hit “OTD” have solidified her place in the industry. In April, she was featured as the face of Spotify Africa’s Fresh Finds playlist. UMG EA’s Chinasa added, “We expect Kenyan music to be on the map with Njerae on the roster. We will be at the table when they are discussing Kenyan music on an international scale.”
Despite the milestone, Njerae remains focused: “I still intend to work even harder to produce even bigger hits.” Her manager, Kefa, highlighted the potential, saying, “Working together with UMG will ensure that Njerae has increased visibility… more stages for her to perform on.”
With UMG’s backing, Njerae’s future in music looks bright, promising great things for fans across East Africa and beyond.
