The African Export-Import Bank (Afreximbank), in collaboration with the African Union Commission (AUC), the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA) Secretariat, and the Government of Algeria, proudly presents the highly anticipated Creative Africa Nexus Weekend (CANEX WKND) 2024. Scheduled to take place from October 16-19, 2024, at SAFEX in Algiers, Algeria, this event promises to be a landmark gathering for Africa’s creative and cultural industries.
Building on the successes of previous editions, including CANEX at IATF2023 in Cairo, CANEX WKND 2024 aims to bring together a diverse array of talent from across the continent and the diaspora. Last year’s event saw over 21 live performances, 115 industry-leading speakers, 13 masterclasses, and a vibrant fashion show, offering an immersive experience filled with music, food, and creativity. This year, the event will continue to develop conversations and foster business opportunities under the theme: One People, United in Culture, Creating for the World.
Mrs. Kanayo Awani, Executive Vice President of Intra Africa Trade and Export Development at Afreximbank, emphasized the importance of the event, stating, “CANEX WKND 2024 represents a pivotal moment for creative and cultural industries in Global Africa to showcase their talent and thrive. By bringing together diverse talents from across the continent and diaspora, we’re not just showcasing creativity; we’re building a robust ecosystem that will propel African culture onto the global stage.”
Key Highlights of CANEX WKND 2024:
- CANEX Music Factory: A gathering of hundreds of songwriters and beatmakers who will create music in live recording studios at the CANEX Exhibition. This year, an album featuring tracks recorded at last year’s Music Factory will be launched.
- CANEX Music Concert: A celebration of African rhythms, featuring performances by top artists such as the Scorpion Kings, Qing Madi, and Sofia Nzau.
- CANEX Fashion Show: A showcase of innovative collections from 10 trailblazing designers across Africa and the diaspora, set against the stunning backdrop of the Algiers Botanical Gardens.
- Exhibition: A dynamic business-to-business exhibition area providing creative brands and organizations with opportunities to connect with international buyers.
- Gastronomy Showcase: Featuring renowned chefs from Africa and the diaspora, this showcase will explore the rich diversity of African cuisine.
- Art Exhibition: A visual feast of iconic and emerging African artists’ works, displayed at the National Museum of Fine Arts in Algiers.
- CANEX Book Factory Prize for Publishing in Africa: An award celebrating literary excellence across the continent.
- CANEX Shorts Awards Ceremony: A recognition of outstanding achievements in short-form content creation by young African filmmakers.
