The Best-Kept Secret Is Out: Código 1530 Ultra-Premium Tequila Debuts in South Africa

Código 1530, Mexico’s ultra-premium tequila, has made its South African debut, introducing a heritage spirit rooted in artisanal production and centuries-old tradition. Crafted in Jalisco, the birthplace of tequila, the brand is internationally recognised for its purity, additive-free approach, and commitment to quality.

“Quality is at the heart of Código 1530,” says Código 1530 Tequila Marketing Activation Manager, Nastasje Cerbone. “Rooted in a century-old family recipe, this tequila was privately crafted for over 100 years before entering commercial production in 2016. Today, it remains true to its heritage—made from 100% blue Weber agave and aged in Napa Valley Cabernet French white-oak barrels for a smooth, refined character.”

The range now available locally includes Blanco, Rosa, Reposado, and Añejo—each expression distinguished by its ageing process and flavour profile. Blanco delivers a bright, pure agave character; Rosa offers a light, floral touch; Reposado presents caramel and toasted oak; and Añejo delivers depth suited to slow sipping.

Código 1530’s global reputation is reinforced by multiple awards, including Double Gold for Añejo at the 2023 Tag Global Spirits Awards and 2022 SIP Awards, and Tequila Producer of the Year at the 2019 Bartender Spirits Awards. Its Blanco expression also secured Gold at both the 2019 Bartender Spirits Awards and the 2016 San Francisco Spirits Competition.

“Código 1530 is more than just tequila, it’s a lifestyle rooted in authenticity, elegance, and craftsmanship. We’re thrilled to bring this exceptional spirit to South Africa,” adds Cerbone. The brand celebrated its local launch at The Ground in Muldersdrift on Thursday, 27 November. Código 1530 is available at fine-spirit stockists nationwide.
