Trace Ngoma is evolving from a TV channel into a platform that helps South African artists learn, grow, and earn. Building on its local rebrand, it now combines cultural relevance with digital tools, giving creators more opportunities while positioning itself as a central player in the creative economy.

Trace Ngoma Evolves From TV Channel To Platform Supporting South African Creators
26 March 2026
Trace Ngoma is no longer just a TV music channel. It’s becoming something much bigger, a platform that helps artists learn, grow, and make money. Instead of only showing culture, it’s now building the system behind it.
From Content to Tools That Help Creators
Trace Ngoma isn’t just focused on what you see on screen anymore. It’s creating tools and platforms, like Trace Academia, that help artists develop their skills and find ways to earn. The idea is simple: don’t just showcase talent, support it from the ground up. This shift builds on its 2025 rebrand, which positioned the channel as a home for local sounds and stories.
TV Is Now Just the Starting Point
The TV channel still matters, but it’s no longer the main event. Think of it as a spotlight that introduces artists to audiences. As Willington Ngwepe explains, “Our customers want to see themselves reflected on screen, their music, their languages, their culture.” But beyond that visibility, the real work, learning, creating, and earning, happens on Trace’s digital platforms.
Leaning Into Local Culture
By shifting from “Trace Africa” to “Trace Ngoma,” the brand is focusing more on South African culture. It’s highlighting sounds and movements people connect with locally, like Amapiano, Maskandi, Gqom and Lekompo. The name “Ngoma,” meaning drumbeat, celebration and unity, signals this deeper cultural focus. As Olivier Laouchez puts it, “TRACE NGOMA is where music meets identity.”
Giving Creators More Power, But Keeping Control
This new model gives artists more control over how they grow and earn. But at the same time, Trace Ngoma becomes even more important as the platform connecting everything. It supports creators, while also positioning itself as the key gateway to opportunities in the industry.
