WAV Festival Announces Cape Town Return Following Successful Debut Earlier This Year
19 May 2026
WAV Festival has officially confirmed its return to Cape Town on 2 January 2027, positioning itself as one of South Africa’s emerging cultural events dedicated to contemporary R&B and alternative music experiences. Following its debut edition earlier this year, the festival is once again promising a fusion of music, fashion, culture and lifestyle against the backdrop of the city’s coastline.
Marketed as more than a traditional music festival, WAV continues to frame itself as a meeting point for African creativity and global R&B culture. The event aims to reinterpret the genre through an African lens while creating space for collaboration between local and international artists, creatives and audiences.
Curated by Afro Nation Creators
WAV Festival is curated by TMG, the team behind globally recognised festival brand Afro Nation, alongside Africa Creative Agency (ACA). The partnership has helped position the event within a broader movement of African-led cultural experiences designed to connect music with fashion, storytelling and community-building.
Its debut edition featured artists including Mariah The Scientist, who represented a younger generation of contemporary R&B voices, alongside amapiano producer Kelvin Momo as a special guest. The line-up also included Shekhinah, Manana, Nanette and jazz collective Kujenga.
Building a Distinct Cultural Identity
By centring R&B, soul and alternative sounds within an African context, WAV enters a growing space of genre-specific festivals reshaping the continent’s live entertainment landscape. Its return in 2027 shows growing confidence in demand for more niche, culturally-curated music experiences within South Africa’s festival market.
