Moonchild Sanelly Expands Johannesburg Full Moon Homecoming To Wanderers Stadium

South African music star Moonchild Sanelly is taking her highly acclaimed Full Moon album home in a big way. After overwhelming demand from fans, the singer has announced that her first-ever Johannesburg performance of Full Moon has been expanded to Wanderers Stadium in partnership with Bafana Bafana, allowing thousands more supporters to attend the special hometown celebration.

The event will bring together music and football in one of the biggest local entertainment gatherings of the year. Fans can expect performances from some of South Africa’s biggest names, including Cassper Nyovest, DJ Tira, Lady Zamar, Daliwonga, Nia Pearl and Muzi, with additional artists and surprises still to be announced.

Adding to the excitement, members of the national football team are expected to make special appearances ahead of their departure for the FIFA World Cup.

Moonchild Sanelly has announced that she will perform her latest album Full Moon live in Johannesburg for the first time, marking a significant hometown moment after years of international touring. The show follows her recent appearance supporting Doja Cat in Pretoria, where the response to her music reportedly inspired the decision to stage a dedicated Johannesburg performance. 

The artist said bringing the Full Moon experience back to Johannesburg carries emotional significance, particularly after building a global audience while staying rooted in her alternative sound. She also noted that affordable ticket pricing was intentional, aiming to make the event accessible to local supporters. 

From “Future-Ghetto-Funk” to Global Recognition

Known for describing her sound as “future-ghetto-funk,” Moonchild Sanelly first gained recognition in South Africa through tracks such as I Walk Ye Phara, Midnight Starring and Makhe, alongside her debut album Rabulapha!. Her career later expanded internationally through collaborations with artists including Beyoncé, Wizkid, Diplo and Damon Albarn. After signing to UK label Transgressive Records, she released projects including Nüdes, Phases and Full Moon, with the latter earning recognition from publications including Variety and GQ.
