Thabo Smol has reached a major turning point in his career with the release of his jazz album, Di Thupa Tsa Smol, which dropped on 25 April 2026. This isn’t just a quick experiment with a new sound; it’s a deliberate move into an evolved creative space.

As a key member of the multi-award-winning duo Black Motion, Smol has been a heavyweight in the South African house scene for over 15 years. Since the duo’s split, both members have followed their own paths, Mörda has focused on his solo work, while Thabo has continued to build Black Motion with a new member. However, this pivot to jazz comes from a place of artistic renewal rather than a search for a commercial hit.
