Cape Town Fashion Designers Unite For After the Runway Community Celebration Event

08 May 2026

Following another season of South African Fashion Week, After the Runway is creating a new platform for Cape Town’s fashion community to continue the conversation beyond traditional runway presentations. The one-day event positions itself as a cultural extension of fashion week, bringing designers, media, industry professionals, and audiences together in a more accessible setting.

Hosted by Helon Melon, who opened this season’s South African Fashion Week programme, the event showcases a diverse group of local designers shaping the city’s evolving fashion identity. Featured participants include SS26 Scouting Menswear competition winner Emelia Dorcas, finalist Victori ZA, Michael Ludwig, Artho Eksteen, and Kate Sara Boutique.

Celebrating Cape Town’s Growing Fashion Influence

Rather than recreating the runway environment, After the Runway focuses on creating closer engagement between designers and audiences. Guests will have the opportunity to experience collections within context while engaging directly with creatives driving South Africa’s contemporary design landscape.

“This moment is about creating visibility and celebrating the incredible creative energy within Cape Town,” said curator Sumendra Chetty. “South African Fashion Week plays such an important role in giving designers a national platform, and this event allows us to continue that conversation within the city.”

A Platform For Designers Beyond Fashion Week

The event arrives during an important moment in the fashion calendar, reflecting growing demand for platforms that support designers beyond formal runway showcases. By opening collections to public and media interaction, After the Runway aims to extend the lifespan of fashion week conversations while reinforcing fashion’s role in culture and community dialogue.

For editors, broadcasters, stylists, and digital platforms, the event also offers a concentrated look at Cape Town’s current design landscape — bringing together emerging talent and established names within a single community-driven space.
