This October, South African hip-hop star Blxckie took center stage at two of the country’s most anticipated events: Back To The City and The Hip Hop Floor Block Party. These events became moments to celebrate Blxckie’s musical journey, especially as part of his involvement in Sprite Limelight Season Three, a global campaign that pairs artists with Grammy-nominated producers. LAMag’s Nyiko Chauke attended both events, capturing the excitement and energy from the crowd.

Sprite Limelight at Back To The City

As one of South Africa’s largest hip-hop festivals, Back To The City has long been a space for the culture to come together. Sprite was there not only supporting South African Hip Hop but also showcasing their latest Sprite Limelight campaign.

Sprite’s limited-edition can features artwork by Zimbabwean artist Sindiso Nyoni (aka R!OT) and it was presented during the event, blending naturally into the hip-hop atmosphere and providing a visual connection to Blxckie’s involvement to the culture. The can celebrates Blxckie’s journey and resilience, making it a fitting part of Back To The City’s celebration of the hip-hop community.

The event allowed Sprite to engage with fans on a deeper level through the music and stories shared by the artists. This year’s focus on overcoming life’s pressures resonated well with the audience, many of whom identified with the campaign’s message of staying cool and rising above challenges.

Following Back To The City, Blxckie brought his energy to The Hip Hop Floor Block Party, performing his latest track “South” in front of an enthusiastic crowd. As part of the Sprite Limelight campaign, the song is a personal reflection of Blxckie’s ability to channel life’s heat into creativity. Fans were able to experience Blxckie’s new music, along with familiar hits, in a live setting that highlighted his versatility and growing influence in the South African hip-hop scene.

Through his performance, Blxckie embodied the essence of the Sprite Limelight campaign—staying true to oneself and overcoming challenges with cool confidence. Fans also had the chance to engage with the Soundlabs tool, an interactive AI-powered platform that allows users to create their own tracks by remixing the “hook” used in Blxckie’s song. This feature further deepened the connection between the artist’s journey and the fans’ creative expression.

Blxckie’s Sprite Limelight Journey

Blxckie’s involvement in Sprite Limelight Season Three has been about more than just music—it’s a celebration of his resilience. Collaborating with Grammy-nominated producers Take A Daytrip, Blxckie has used his platform to share his story through the single “South,” which is a part of the broader global Sprite Limelight campaign. Featuring artists from across the globe, the campaign centers around personal stories of overcoming heat and staying cool, with Blxckie representing South Africa on this global stage.

The campaign continues to highlight new music, inspiring fans worldwide to turn their challenges into creativity, with tools like Soundlabs empowering them to remix their own personal beats.
