Coca‑Cola’s iconic Share a Coke campaign has officially returned, launching today in South Africa as part of a global comeback tailored for a new generation. First introduced in 2011, the campaign became a cultural phenomenon by replacing the Coca‑Cola logo with popular first names, turning bottles into personalized mementos of connection. Now, it’s back to meet the moment—tapping into Gen Z’s desire for authentic, real-world interaction in a hyper-digital age.
The 2025 relaunch brings new digital and in-person layers to the experience, making it more shareable and customizable than ever. South African consumers can now find cans and bottles with names on shelves, while scanning QR codes or using the Coca‑Cola app unlocks access to a digital hub. There, fans can personalize virtual Coke packaging and use the “Share a Coke Memory Maker” to create video mashups with their own photos, memes, and content—turning everyday moments into lasting memories.
Franscoe Bouwer, Senior Director, Frontline Marketing at Coca-Cola South Africa says, “In today’s digital world, it is important to celebrate the unique bonds of friendships and celebrate this important human connection. “Share a Coke” reminds us that memories happen when we come together and experience the real magic of human connection; those spontaneous moments of laughter, stories, and genuine connection, shared over a Coca-Cola can, make life so special.”
For Gen Z, whose friendships are often forged online but long for offline depth, the return of Share a Coke is both nostalgic and timely. “Get ready for a whole new level of sharing with fresh experiences and ways to spark joy with your crew,” said ElDessouky. “We’re bringing new channels and experiences to this campaign to help people uplift friendships through real-life everyday moments.” Whether shared over a meal, on a feed, or in person, the message is simple: sometimes all it takes to show someone you care is a name on a bottle.
Personalised Coca-Cola bottles and cans are available at PNP, Checkers and Shoprite.
